How are you holding up during the holidays, Foxys? Especially my fellow cult survivors—are you doing okay? The holidays were usually a tough time for me, as a survivor. Here are my top three things that helped me deal with the holidays.
Reach out to those who are experiencing the same situation. Thank goodness we live in a time when the internet has brought the entire world closer. We can now find our specific communities online. When I first left the cult, there wasn't much information and help specifically for my trauma. But now, it's easy to find help from the very comfort of our own home.
Do something for someone else. I like participating in homeless-shelter events to help the less fortunate. And visiting the elderly in homes is always rewarding. By the way, just because someone is less fortunate than you does NOT mean your feelings aren't valid. Don't brush them under the rug with guilt by telling yourself you shouldn't feel bad, because someone else is worse off. The point is to help others, and to feel good about yourself.
Do something for you. You don't have to earn happiness. You deserve to be happy because you exist. I will elaborate on that point later, with another blog. But in the meantime, what are you going to do today to make yourself happy?
Stay foxy!
